My personal Memories of Santa collection...

Many years ago I purchased some ceramic molds from Second Career for the Memories of Santa collection that I painted this winter for my personal collection and posted pictures here on my blog. Don't go looking for the pictures because I had to remove them. Today I received a very upsetting email stating that I had infringed on someone's copyright to the tune of $100,000.00, which certainly was not my intention. I was merely making a set of ceramic Santas for my personal collection from molds that I bought and paid for, in good faith, long ago. Fortunately for me, I no longer own the molds.

Perhaps I should be flattered that someone thinks I could reproduce their product with such accuracy. Paying back $100,000. on social security may take a while.

It's a *sad day at Black Rock* when you think you are minding your own business, doing a hobby that you enjoy, but unknowingly wind up stepping on someone else's toes or copyright.

Update:
The legal person for Memories of Santa Organization sent me a very nice apology email reply. I hope to be able to sleep tonight after having a panic attack and almost heart failure! No, I do not have to pay the $100,000. but would have been sued for copyright infringement if I had not complied with their demands. THEY should be going after the MOLD MAKER and not some little gray headed granny that knew nothing of their collection. I understand their position. They need to protect their interest and collectors. I was told the original complete collection is worth a large sum of money. Another interesting part is my santas were not for sale.

Edna,

Do you REALLY have to pay that back? You did absolutely nothing wrong. Yes, it is a VERY sad day indeed.

Oh my word! Your work is awesome and they must of seen that and felt very threatned. You are so right, they should go for the ones that did the molds. Not you!! You were just doing something that you love Edna, and there is nothing wrong in that. Keep doing what your doing. Your artwork is amazing!

Edna, thank goodness you will not have to pay anything..
After all you didn't do anything wrong!
Like you said you had those unpainted Santa's setting for years and years. And after all these years you finally painted them.
It's shame that someone like yourself can't have a hobby without some "nosy rosy" getting in your pictures!
Thank God thats over, or at least I hope so.

Blessings, Mae

Thank you everyone for your comments, and no, Ms. Mae...it's not over! This person is a fraud and threatened me (extortion) so we have many, many options. Texas does have some wonderful laws! I'll have to dig into my money sock but that is ok. It will be well worth it!!! ~Edna~

How do you know it wasn't the same creep emailing you again? I would think the real people would send you regular mail.
